Study shows that skiers have more fun than snowboarders

A study carried out by sports psychologists has shown that winter sports enthusiasts who opt for skiing have more fun than those who choose snowboarding.

The rivalry between the two sports has been going on for some time. Sports psychologists carried out a survey to determine the levels of happiness and well-being of both skiers and snowboarders. It showed that both sets of participants can have a great time and benefit, even if they only occasionally take part.

However, the average rate given by the skiers on their own involvement and pleasure from their sport tended to be about five times higher than that of the snowboarders. One of the reasons for this suggested by the researchers is that skiers tend to concentrate more on their activity than the snowboarders, and give more meaning to their activity. It is this flow that can help them to have better satisfaction levels with their sport. It has also been suggested that snowboarders are just more relaxed and could be downplaying their answers.

A total of 279 people took part in the survey in South Korea. 45 percent of the participants were skiers, 40 percent were snowboarders and the remainder took part in both sports. The results of the survey are not considered to be likely to end any rivalry, but they do shed light on why winter sports are so popular. The researchers have pointed out that sporting activities can have a strong effect on well-being and the same is true for those who only partake occasionally.
